POETRY PATHWAY
An AR Experience by Maggie Robertson
Anxiety is an increasingly common affliction in our fast-paced society that prioritizes productivity and consumerism. Within this project, titled “Poetry Pathway,” I investigate themes of joy, nature, childhood, and presence as I urge users to go for a walk and deeply engage with their environment by interacting with thought-provoking poems, lush soundscapes, and whimsical digital art pieces that I place around them via AR. In this detailed AR experience, I highlight two poems by Laura Gillis and Kieran Charnock that focus on being mindful, seeing the world from a different perspective, unlocking childhood memories, interacting with nature, and escaping one’s mundane routine and consumer destiny. As someone who struggles with anxiety and staying in the present moment, I have found that going for walks and enjoying art such as poetry, books, music, and visual art boosts my mood and helps me stay curious about the world. Through this AR experience, I blend these elements in an open and accessible space. “Poetry Pathway” employs art and nature to ease anxiety and help users find wonder and inspiration in the everyday.
